Try a full format on the device from the file explorer. Do not do a quick format but a full format. It will take a while to finish the format but it fixed the problem for me. I bought a couple of these and they seem to work well. BTW - These are not really MP4 players. They are AVM players. AVM is not considered an MP4 format but for $20 they will work as a 8gig flas drive, kinda slow.
