what is the best system components for converting vcr to dvd

I am currently using ads tech’s dvd express with spotty results (in terms of video capture) I have a very good computer and very good video editing, burning, etc. software.

Again the problem is getting mpeg (2 preferably) from the tape into the computer.

I would look on the net (especially ebay) for video capture boards. Those would convert from analog (vhs for example) to digital (mpeg, avi, etc). The ones I like to use were the all-in-wonder family of cards from ati. I thought they delivered pretty good performance along with good 3-D graphics (which you may not need), but they can be pricey. You should look into Matrox cards too.
