funkyAL Guest | VLC Player is a standard video player for almost every type of file! a torrent file is not the same as a avi file. avi files are video files that use different codes. A torrent file is not a video file at all. it can be one, but basically it´s a file that is used by bittorrent or other filesharing tools as a temp file. Thjat means while downloding a file through bittorent any type of file is called torrent.. as soon as it is complete (and of cause not broken) it changes it name to the type of file it´s used to be. could be aci .. could be a program an mpg or anything.. !!!! you won´t be able to open a torrent file .. becaus eit is an unfinished download file.. ) just some parts of it sometimes 99.9% of it are in it of the original file) 2nd: torrent files somtimes only care the information about where and what to get from your filesharing tool..

guest Guest | as funkyAL says, you CANNOT play a torrent file you need a application like
BIT TORRENT,
or
ABC[y.a.b.t.c]
or
Kazaa,
or
morpheus,
you must finish downloading the torrent file using one of the above clients(as they are called)
when the file is finished downloading the finished thing that you D/L’ed will be in the folder of your choice, ONLY then will you be able to open the file, the original torrent file will now be obsolite,

Ollie Guest | Basically you need to open the .torrent file using wat is known as a client. For instance get your self a copy of azureus or bittornado. They are all free and can be googled for. Next open the .torrent file using your client. it should start downloading, to the place that you select it to. Consider the .torrent file as a packet of information telling your client what to obtain. The “real” file should downlaod to the location of your choice. When it is finished you will be able to access the files. So if it is a film you will be able to play it. I hope this helps. If you have allready attempted to download it, it sounds as though its not completed or corrupt.
Let us know how you get on
Ollie

Astro Guest | I’m having the same problem. I’ve downloaded using Azureus, the file is saved as a winamp media file, yet when I go to play the file (the latest episode of Lost), I am getting sound but no video. Will installing this VLC player help?
Sorry, but this actually is my first time using torrents. So if I sound like a n00b, I guess I am. =/

URLs Guest | It will be more logical to break the problem into two parts:
(1)Downloading the media file via a p2p network, e.g. BitTorrent, KaZaA, eMule. Ollie has already given a summary of how BitTorrent (BT) works; but anyone who wishes to find out more can go to http://dessent.net/btfaq/ for the details.
(2) Playing the downloaded media file in an appropriate player. No single player can play all media types. Most of the time, you will need the right video and audio codecs to play them. When you have a problem playing either the video or the audio part, use a free program like GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html) or VideoInspector (http://www.kcsoftwares.com/index.php?vtb) to identified which codecs you are missing, and have them installed. Alternatively, you can download the VLC player, which can play almost any media other that .MOV, .RM and .WMV.

liz1102 Guest | I’ve downloaded a torrent, and used BitLord to do the next bit. and now I have all the files on my computer. But it still wont play. The files were in .rar format, so I decompressed them. Now I just have a .BIN and a .CUE file but I cant make theem play. how do I make the file play using a media player?
