Beastlee Guest |
I have experienced that once or twice, have you tried to use the command prompt?
Open your command prompt and type
“cd (drive Letter):\(directory)" Press Enter
Next Type
“del *.avi”
Do not type the Quotation Marks
That should do it!

Beastlee Guest | Sorry that was not supposed to be a smiley face. Let me try again, its
cd (drive Letter): \ (directory)" Press Enter
without the extra spaces
Also let me warn you that this will delete every AVI file in that directory. Good luck.

Johny Innuendo Guest | Hi
I did try you suggestion but I got still the same message that the file is corrupt and unreadable.
Any idea?

Beastlee Guest | I would suggest first, do error checking on the drive through the properties of the drive and if that does not work, back up everything else on the drive that you want to keep and then reformat the drive. If you cannot, delete the partition with the command prompt and fdisk command. After that you should have no problem reformatting. It sounds like your only option if you have tried everthing else.

Johny Innuendo Guest | It seems that error checking did work. The file is gone. Who knows how. Anyway, thank you very much for help. I already gave up and prepared my self to back up everything (30 GB!!) and I didn’t know where to put all this stuff!! Now we can breath again!

Ricardo Guedes Guest | Hi again,
thanks Mike for your Email, but i must say that i tryed all thats in this Forum and it didn’t worked nothing...
the problem is that i have constantly freezing sequences when i try to view a movie it does not completly freezes because i can Alt+Ctrl+del and cancel the corrent movie program but still, can’t view nothing...
I select a small movie and still freezes but less, i can listen the movie sound ( with some freezing stops )but cannot see, i tryed to see internet movies and the problem is the same but without sound...
i installed the latest codecs that i used before and doesn’t worked to...
i think the problem has something to do with my SATA hard disk because is the only new hardware i have in my computer ( i think i have seen movies in this drive before ) but still think is this...
well, i just don’t know what to do, if some of you ppl, expert ones whant to try to solve this by msn helping using computer assistence i would be greatfull, otherwise please help me in other ways possible.

Beastlee Guest | I am sorry to hear that Ricardo. After you reformatted your HD, did you install any software before you tried to play a movie file? What about hardware, you did mention something about a new HD, did you install the drivers for that? I can tell you that my system would not boot at all with the drives that came with my SATA hard drive. I think if the only thing you are having problems with is movie files, it still sounds like a software problem. What OS are you running? What programs do you have installed now? if you are running Windows, you may want to try this program called Shellexview from here http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html and disable some avi, mpeg, ect... .dll’s. Post again with some answers and results and I will try to help you further. Just to let you know, I am self taught and have no professional experience.

Beastlee Guest | Ricardo, if you think that it may be your new SATA HD, have you tried to put your old one back in to confirm? Also, the question I was asking is did your new HD come with its own drivers and did you install them or did you let windows install the Microsoft drivers?

Ricardo Guedes Guest | I DID!!
I will check that another time, i have formated about 100 times ...

Gman Guest | o.k. so i downloaded a movie in .avi format it did not work with WMP, Winamp, Divx, VLC. i was then instructed to unregister the preview settings for audo and video using the Regsrv/ u shmedia.dll trick. That did not solve problem. Then i downloaded Gspot a great program that finally told me the problem was not a codec problem but that the file was TRUNCATED and 1 byte was missing. if anyone knows how to fix this problem so i can play this file i will give them my first born child. Thanks for your time.

Faaip Guest | Hi guys,
Lately I’ve been working with Windows 2000, and I was wondering whether it’s possible to watch movies in XP’s windows explorer like you can in 2000’s windows explorer.
Tnx
