over the last few days any video file (online or local) i play does not show right. all the sound is fine.

basicaly the image is really black and only light bits show but not in there correct colours, it all seems to be a really oversaturated picture. only the bright areas show either one shade of blue red or yellow.

can somebody please advise what to do? i dont remeber installing anything lately?

Thanks

Those kind of errors suggest overlay problems.
If you turn off hardware acceleration globally and it fixes the problem, that’s probably the cause. (Don’t turn it off permanently though, because that takes a HUGE hit on performance).
To turn off hardware acceleration go to control panel, display properties, settings, advanced, troubleshoot, then turn the bar all the way to the left and click apply. Try playing the video, (just to see if it’s indeed an overlay problem), then move it back to full.

If it’s indeed overlay problems, there’s a few things you can try.
1. Tweak any advanced video overlay settings. Where to find them depends on your video card. http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/3849p4.html (#71) has a mention for nvidia cards.
2. Install the latest drivers for your video card. Video drivers are sometimes hastily put out and can contain bugs.
3. Reinstall DirectX
