I don’t really watch animes dubbed in English. But I want to know if animes dubbed in English really suck or not. I know the English Naruto suck, but I think I like the Bleach-dubbed in English a little. what about u guys?
It depends on the anime and who dubs it.For one One Piece dubbed is one of the worst animes ever, yet Slayers dubbed is alot funnier than the japanese version.
Some do, but there is a lot of animes dubs I really like. I thought Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, Eureka 7, Lupin the III, and Trigun all had good dubs.
I like all anime that is Japanese originated. I mean what does it matter that it’s in English? The only thing that sucks is that our versions aren’t as violent and graphic as the ones in Japan.
Like you should see some of the Japanese versions of Naruto... lost of blood.
I prefer dub to sub... unless the dub is overly crappy, which some are. But most anime have decent dubs, and as long as it keeps me from having to read I’m happy with it.
But... Some VAs are just awesome, everything Johnny Bosch does is excellent, same with Vic Migonina (sp?) and Steven Blum.
There are a few good dubbed anime’s not many though. Even if I get an anime in English I choose to change the language and turn on sub-titles. To me it makes it a bit better and puts my nerves at ease, since you get to read and hear it in it’s original format.
I refuse to watch anime on TV because of the dubs, these ones usually suck hard core, and I prefer to avoid them at all costs. Like Naruto, his voice is meant to be slightly annoying, but there is something about the English voice that bugged me to where I stopped watching the show. On the other hand I though the dub to Trigun wasn’t all that bad, still I watched most of the series with subtitles on.
Mainly its because they change the humor to what is more acceptable in American society, and they clean it up so much to make it politically correct. The voice actors also are a major factor, this can make or break the entire thing. If the actors are off, then the series is ruined.
Another thing that bugs me is when there is a show in Japanese that you really like, and they dub it and it ruins the meaning, and the humor, etc. Like for me finding out they dubbed Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai (Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi), I was heart broken. They made Sasshi and Arumi sound like rednecks. I’m really hopping that Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (So Long Mr. Despair) does not become subbed and released in America, that would really upset me.
It all depends. Some dubs are lifeless, so I watch the subs. I mean, I don’t speak Japanese so I can’t say whether or not they’re actually good in that context, but they at least sound better to me.
But I couldn’t imagine, say, Cowboy Bebop any other way than in English. And, whoever thought the Japanese actors for Dragonball Z were good need to be re-educated.
There are too many Japanophiles in this world. LITTLE TOO MUCH.
And...
lol @ Americans who edit anime so it’s 'appropriate' for American children when American children are one of the most violent in the world.
