Wow, we’ve got a lot of issues flying around all at once! :-) Let’s see if I’ve got this right:
1.) “http://progressive.stream.aol.com/aol/us/aolmusic/specials/2005/live8/berlin/berlin_034_chrisdeburgh_theladyinred_dl.mov” takes a long time to download. [Is the file really 59 MB?]
2.) Some MOV files display an message when you try to play them: “You may experience problems playing a video track..." But if you click continue, there are no errors. [This sounds like more of an annoyance than a real problem.]
3.) 4U AVI Mpeg converter will not convert the MOV files. Instead, it gives the error: “File can not be opened, may be there is something wrong with the source file!" [Does this apply to all of the AOL videos, or just some of them?]
4.) QuickTime 6.5.2 doesn’t allow saving. [Really? Even the registered version?]
5.) TMPGEnc has a QuickTime plugin that will convert MOV files to MPEG-2, but the videos don’t have sound. [Does this only apply to AOL videos, or all MOV files?]
6.) We can’t download the following video: “rtsp://demand1.stream.aol.com/aol/us/aolmusic/musicpartner/sony/color_me_badd/ColorMeBadd_RememberWhen_V01672EEV0101_1_1_bb8.rm” [My best guess is that the link is wrong. A URL sniffer should give you the correct link. If you know you have the correct link and it still won’t download, then we should try to figure out why.]
7.) The following file downloads fine: “rtsp://demand1.stream.aol.com/aol/us/aolmusic/artists/wmg/craigdavid/craigdavid_ilp_concert_bb8.rm”, but the picture “jumps”. [What does that mean? Are frames getting dropped?]

HKP Guest | I find the links by using MXID, & the id for “rtsp://demand1.stream.aol.com/aol/us/aolmusic/musicpartner/sony/color_me_badd/ColorMeBadd_RememberWhen_V01672EEV0101_1_1_bb8.rm” is: 1369510.
the file can be viewed at this link: “http://mp.aol.com/video.index.adp?pmmsid=1369510&referer=http%3A//music.channel.aol.com/artist/main.adp%3Ftab%3Dmain%26artistid%3D3943%26albumid%3D0&_AOLFORM=w708.h344.p7.R10”
using MXID is also how i found this link: “rtsp://demand1.stream.aol.com/aol/us/aolmusic/artists/wmg/craigdavid/craigdavid_ilp_concert_bb8.rm”
& this one i gould download, & yes, your right frames are dropped..

Seritral Guest | thank u Steve 4 takin' the time to answer;-)
Ok,
1)the file berlin_034_chrisdeburgh_theladyinred_dl.mov was 57.7mb
2)And you’re right about that annoyance, it’s nothing else than that. one just gotta click continue to watch the video as normal(but the problem comes with the conversion)
3)4U AVI Mpeg converter didn’t work with any .mov video.
4)QuickTime 6.5.2(registered ver.) does allow saving but didnt work with aol videos.
5)TMPGEnc...no sound with all the .mov (i even tried it with the quick time default sample.mov)at first a i thought that it wuld be a missing sound header in the aol videos, but at this point i’m not sure :-I.
have you had success with TMPGEnc? or what other method do u use?
cheers

JohnELyman Guest | Great Job with CoolBeans. I love the program. Maybe in the future it could be in a GUI form?

Seritral Guest | Ok I just tried Coolbeans n it works just fine with the .nsv! it’s a faster method n I can get the videos in smaller file sizes than with the .mov(eventhough they’re 350 bitrate instead 700 bitrate) anyway I’m just wondering how you guys do to convert the .nsv to mpeg-2?

We can’t download the following video: “rtsp://demand1.stream.aol.com/aol/us/aolmusic/musicpartner/sony/color_me_badd/ColorMeBadd_RememberWhen_V01672EEV0101_1_1_bb8.rm” [My best guess is that the link is wrong. Maybe I’ll get to answering some more of these questions sometime... I’m just taking the easy ones right now. :-)
As far as I know, there is no way to convert an NSV to any other format. (Please, somebody, prove me wrong!) I’ll have to look into this trick AOL did so that QuickTime won’t save the videos. Right now, it sounds like the biggest problem is converting AOL videos into an editable format.
We’ve come a long way since the start of this forum. The main purpose of this thread was to discover a way to download NSV videos. Converting them is a new challenge. Looks like we have our work cut out for us! :-)

Seritral Guest | Steve:
You are right, at this point all we need is a succesful .mov or .nsv to mpeg convertion.
It’s been more than a month since the first post in this thread n I think we have advanced a lot but the callenge is still there.
we just need to give it the “final touch” Anyone outhere who can help us?

We’ll get there sooner or later. If I recall correctly, there is already a VP5 decoder built into Xine (or some other media player). I know VLC will play VP3 video, because I’ve done it. It don’t think it would be too much of a challenge to make a decoder into a DirectShow filter. That’s really all we need. If somebody makes a DirectShow filter, then AviSynth can frameserve it to VirtualDub or TMPGEnc. I’m getting a smile just thinking about it! :-)

Offsprung Guest | More of an annoyance?
QT or aol is adding some filter that causes QT alternative to have no sound. Conversion with sound is impossible and real qt eludes to it on all the live8 movs,
How is that just an annoyance?

FrameServe Guest | Just curious if any of you have run into an AOL NSV stream that Cool Beans couldn’t download? I’m wondering if AOL has made any adjustments.

I have not personally encountered any videos that CoolBeans cannot download. I’ve only heard one or two complaints about difficulties with CoolBeans, but these were user errors (mistyped link, etc). :-)
Seritral,
Really? They nixed the Live 8 videos? I wonder if it is in response to excessive demand, or if it simply “expired” like all the other AOL concerts. (For example, try locating Ashlee Simpson’s live AOL concert. It doesn’t seem to be on the web site any more.)

FrameServe Guest | lol, I also wanted Ashlee Simpson’s live AOL concert. I wish they would put that back up.

Vespian Guest | For Everyone That Has Assisted In Solving This .NSV Mystery, I Thank You. Its Cool To Think About It, Almost A Year Ago When I Started This Thread, I never Thought It Would Take Off Like It Did. Congradulations.

The Ashlee Simpson concert is still on the website. It’s just that you won’t be able to find the link to it. Fortunately I got the link back when the concert aired, and it is still valid. Would you like the link?
There might be other concerts online too, but with no links to them. I wonder what kind of treasures are hidden on AOL’s website! :-)

Yeah, I’d like that link. Post it here or send it to the email in the coolbeans zip file. Thanks in advance.
