Hi, I downloaded this Xvid Codec it says I needed for playing a movie on my computer. But even so, it will not play. I don’t know if I took the proper steps to install it in the proper folders on my computer. Could somebody who knows about these things give me a brief descriptions of how to troubleshoot this. Thanks.

OK
Step 1. run gspot or any of the tools on this page
http://www.moviecodec.com/questions/neededcodec.html
against your file.
2. note what fourcc/container it describes. if it is xvid and an avi of valid length, then download the xvid binaries from
http://www.koepi.org
don’t download the source code from xvid.org
3. if the container is matroska or ogm, use media player classic. if the avi is of incorrect length use media player classic.
