audio / video out of sync

I’ve been using WinAVI converter to convert and burn AVI’s to DVD’s. It’s working great. Good video and good audio. But, when I play the DVD’s on my DVD player, the video and audio become out of sync about three quarters of the way thru the movie. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what I can do about it?
