windows media player asks for samr codec

i tried to play a mp4 file with windows media player. the player plays the movie but there is no sound. the player asks for samr codec.
which codec is required to be installed.

I don’t trust Windows Media Player error messages much. Can you feed the file into gspot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot) and paste to us what it says?
I’m skeptical because 1. I never heard of a samr codec. 2. Windows Media Player doesn’t natively play MP4 files (but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your portable player came with software for your pc that had a filter to decode it in WMP, or you have QuickTime Alternative installed).

The SAMR codec plays in Quicktime movie player only.
