-KEVIN- Guest | Hey everyone, I have a JVC camera and everytime I upload my video’s to my hard-drive it makes them in .mod and .moi format.
I use Windows Movie Maker (I know it’s problly not the best system to use but heck its free!) and it won’t allow .mod or .moi files. So I need a converer or a way to get around this.
Thanks,
-Kevin

C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin Miller\My Documents\MOV039.MPG could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from

If you totally insist on using Windows Movie Maker you’ll probably need to get an MPEG-2 decoder (it’s actually a filter). Most are pay (Elecard/Moonlight, Lead, MainConcept for example). If you have DVD software (PowerDVD, WindDVD) or certain video editing software, they’ll also have MPEG-2 filters.
I heard ffdshow (free) has MPEG-2 decoding capabilities, but I don’t know if you can interface them with WMM.
Another free way would be to use something like VirtualDub-MPEG-2 (http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/), to convert to AVI first (under video, compression, be sure to pick a codec, otherwise you’ll get an uncompressed AVI, which is humongous), then import that into WMM.

-KEVIN- Guest | I have PowerDVD on my system. Any way of you showing me how to use it and conver the files to something Window’s Movie Maker allows?

Anyway I’m not going to try to find out what the MPEG-2 filter problem is (too hairy). I think the most straightforward route would be to open your .MOD file in VirtualDub-MPEG-2, then click video, compression, then pick your favorite codec (preferrably something modern that compresses well and keeps quality), then click configure and set the settings to your liking. Then click file, save as AVI. Feed that AVI into movie maker for further editing.

rukhsana photography Guest | Hi All,
I solved my issues with this today, as this website was one that kept turning up in my searches i thought it would be relevant to post my solution here.
My Problems
File would not load into windows movie maker was my inital issue.
I got to the stage where it was essential to convert the file using a movie converter. This creates another entire issue there are so many converters out there, some work some don’t.
I used a converter named
SUPER © v2007.build.23
at website
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
This provided 1/2 a solution it would convert the file to play in windows media player and import into movie maker....however when i dragged the clip into the time line i could hear but not see the clip.
After more reserch i decided to download a codec pack called
k-lite from
http://www.codecguide.com/
allthough i actually downloaded from this place
http://www.majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_d5230.html
when installing the K-lite codec pack i uninstalled all the codecs it suggested i uninstall and agreed to the recommendations the installation wizard suggested.
I can now finally import and edit what were once files created by a panasonic hybrid movie camera that produces MOD and MOI files into windows movie maker.
heres the short guide to it
download the program from here to convert your files to wmv format.
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
After you convert the file you will most likely be able to import your movie and play it on wmp but when you drag it into the time line of movie maker you will hear but not see it. If this is true then download the codec pack below
http://www.majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_d5230.html
Good luck !!
I am using windows xp it worked a treat

Paul3000 Guest | I am not sure how to convert my MOD files and to which one’s. Please could you give me a rundown of what I have to do to convert to and what settings to use in Super C. Thanks.
