I need to get a MOD file to AVI. Renaming it to MPG does let it play, but MPG to AVI converters say the file isn’t a valid MPG. I’m supposing when I do the rename, the files aren’t exactly the same, but the important data (the actual video and audio) are the same. But how do I convert it more “officially”?

I know some digital camcorders produce movies with extension .MOD, and I know it’s MPEG, but I never knew whether it was MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. You might want to feed the file into gspot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot) or avicodec (http://avicodec.duby.info) to find out.
Which tool are you using to convert to AVI? If you’re using VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org), it shouldn’t have any problem reading MPEG-1. It won’t read MPEG-2 though. There’s a slightly modified version that does. It’s called (you guessed it) VirtualDub-MPEG-2 and can be downloaded here http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/

The program works; MOD is MPEG-2, which explains it. Also, my McAfee thinks its a Trojan, but I don’t think it is as it is open-source. I’m running it in a quarantined zone, though, just in case.

Thankies.
