New firmware for MP4 player:Worth the risk?

Hello,
I’ve just bought a 2GB MP4 player on eBay,And it’s working great. The real size is 1951.84MB,So it doesn’t appear to be hacked.
I’m mostly happy with the current firmware (9.0.50),But there’s just one quite annoying “feature” or problem:
I have more than 20 folders with different songs (Different artists/Bands)
When I’m attempting to browse the folders,I need to press the back/forward buttons really fast because it’s quickly returning to the “music” screen with the currently selected song,Which makes it really hard to browse folders.
So my question is...
Is there some firmware without such problem,And if yes,Does it worth the risk of “losing” the player? From what I understand,It’s better to not update.
Thanks in advance!
