xvid is a processor-intensive like divx and windows media 9, especially at high resolutions. If your PC is old (~less than 300 MHz) chances are it will drop frame or play out of sync full-screen movies with one of those codecs. There’s things you can do to reserve as much processor usage to movie playback as possible, but it’s limited. Close all other running programs including the ones in your taskbar (instant messengers (aim, msn, yahoo), media players (real, quicktime)). Close your firewall and antivirus. For advanced users only: disable various services like automatic updates or task scheduler.

i have the same problem with this rip. i find it hard to believe that it is just because my pc isn’t up to it, i have an athlonxp 2600 with 512mb of ram.

also, when i open part 2, i get some strange artifacts all over the screen and after about 2 seconds of playback, whatever movie player i’m uses crashes! (i’ve tried windows media player, powerdvd, winamp and all fatally crash after 2 seconds of playback).

all the rar files that i extracted passed an sfv test. i’ve also installed the latest xvid codec.

surely someone else has experienced the same? who are these Done jokers?!

okay, i fixed the messed up second half (migraine released a patch, apparently Done had cut the movie in the wrong place i.e. not on a keyframe). if anyone else is trying to find this fix, try a search for m-troy.rar on google for a torrent link.

the stuttery playback remains though sad

hi iwo,

thanks for offering info on the patch. i’ve stopped the stuttering video, essentially i used to use Bsplay for my avi files, then when i opened the same troy video using WMP (version 10 i think) it worked fine, no stuttering. except for the 2nd disc problem which i hope the patch u told me about fixes.

even so i managed to get around that problem, just fast forward past that problem spot and u can watch the rest of the movie. smiley

dear hey,

double click the rar file, and let it run. Winrar will run through all the files from r.00 to r.48 to give u the final avi file.

repeat the process for both folders, and u’ll have 1 avi file in each folder. u can watch the movie using those 2 files.

ps, use the link iwo provided to get the patch for the 2nd avi file. cheers and enjoy the movie. smiley

this is an extremely annoying problem. i just downloaded 'the terminal' and get exactly the same problem. i’m using bsplayer like you suggested latecomer, but it gives exactly the same problem (just like wmp 10).

i have the latest xvid codec, the latest driver for my gfx card (radeon 9600pro) and when playing the movie back (troy or the terminal) cpu usage is always lower than 20% (typically between 8-16%).

anyone else have the same experience?

apologies, i feel like i’ve spammed the board a bit with this when it was really simple to solve. i got so side tracked searching for 'stuttering with troy' i never once just looked for general xvid stutter problems.

a google search gave me the answer immediately, just download the latest version of ffdshow:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/

get the alpha not the stable (as there hasn’t been a 'stable' release since 2002).
