The CD is great, but to me something about this one song really sticks out to me. The lyrics are simply amazing and they hold so much power in them as well. As the booklet that came with the CD says, Mike Shinoda delivered two of the most inspired verses he’s ever done in this song. The lyrics are below.
Turn my mike up louder I got to say something
Light weights step to the side when we come in
Feel it in your chest the syllables get pumping
People on the street they panic and start running
Words on loose leaf sheet complete coming
I jump on my mind, I summon the rhyme, I’m dumping
Feeling the blind I promised to let the sun in
Sick of the dark ways we marched to the drumming
Jump when they tell us that they wanna see jumping
Fuck that I wanna see some fists pumping
Miss something, take back what’s yours
Say something that you know they might attack you for
Cause I’m sick of being treated like I had before
Like the stupid standing for what I’m standing for
Like this war’s really just a different brand of war
Like it doesn’t cater the rich and the fan and poor
Like they understand you in the back of the jet
When you can’t put gas in your tank
These fuckers are laughing the way to the bank and cashing the check
Asking you to have the passion and have some respect
For a leader so nervous in an obvious way
Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay
And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day
In their living room laughing like “what did he say?"
In my living room watching but I am not laughing
Cause when it gets tense I know what might happen
World is cold the bold men take action
Have to react to get blown into fractions
Ten years old is something to see
Another kid my age drug under the jeep
Taken and bound and found later under the tree
I wonder if he thought the next one could be me
Do you see the soldiers they’re out today
They brush the guts with bullet proof vests away
It’s ironic at times like this you pray
But a bomb blew up the mosque yesterday
There’s bombs in the buses, bikes, roads
Inside your market, your shops, your clothes
My dad he’s got a lot of fear I know
But enough pride inside not to let that show
My brother had a book he would hold with pride
A little red cover with a broken spine
On the back, he handwrote a quote inside
When the rich wage war it’s the poor who die
Meanwhile, the leader just talks away
Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay
And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day
In their living room laughing like “what did he say?“ ---

J.F.K Recording: What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can’t reach...
So, you get what we had here last week,
which is the way he wants it!
Well, he gets it!
N' I don’t like it any more than you men." *
Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they’ve always done before
Look at the hate we’re breeding
Look at the fear we’re feeding
Look at the lives we’re leading
The way we’ve always done before
My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can’t deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars
D’you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said “Peace could last forever”
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can’t trust freedom
When it’s not in your hands
When everybody’s fightin'
For their promised land
And
I don’t need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain’t that fresh
I don’t need your civil war
Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we’re spilling
Look at the world we’re killing
The way we’ve always done before
Look in the doubt we’ve wallowed
Look at the leaders we’ve followed
Look at the lies we’ve swallowed
And I don’t want to hear no more
My hands are tied
For all I’ve seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars
“We practice selective annihilation of mayors
And government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum
As popular war advances
Peace is closer” **
I don’t need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain’t that fresh
And I don’t need your civil war
I don’t need your civil war
I don’t need your civil war
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain’t that fresh
I don’t need your civil war
I don’t need one more war
I don’t need one more war
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway ---

Call Sign Emo Guest | I donno what you’re talking about. This song is the best on the album. It’s telling you to look around and see what the war’s doing to America. There are people who are giving their lives over there for people they’ve never met and we’re over here enjoying our air conditioning and sh*t like that. Well, if it wasn’t for the fact that I’m only 16, I’d be over there too. I’d like to stick up for my country and help those who need it. Maybe there’ll be people like Linkin Park who sing about me and my fellow soldiers... It makes them feel like they’ve got purpose.

Mr. Fix It Guest | At the end of your lyrics you have part of it wrong. The Second time this is repeated
And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day
In their living room laughing like “what did he say?“
Its
And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day
Both Scared and Angry like “what did he say?“

The only people who I think would be disappointed were those expecting another hybrid theory. ---
