Look, it’s no secret that the PS3 isn’t selling anywhere near as rabidly as Sony wanted to, and there’s a good reason why: No games. Sure, there may be Resistance, Motorstorm, Virtua Fighter 5 and Oblivion, but really: Where are the heavy-hitters that Sony was talking up a storm about? What happened to the awesome graphics they were showing back in 2005? The simple answer: They’re nearly here.
Sony proved that with Gamer’s Day, as nearly everything there was actual gameplay footage, including the games that had graphics that were “questionable” such as Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank and Heavenly Sword. To prove my point, here are screens from E3 (2005 & 2006):
For most people, price isn’t the hindering factor. It’s the lack of incentive. With games like these and HOME, though, PS3 sales will definitely pick up.
But it’s been proven that price is the huge factor. If you were to ever look at Japanese sales targets you’d notice that the game to console ratio is very low. Even with big games released in Japan such as Motorstorm and Gundam and VF5 the ratio is lower than 1.5 games per cosnole. This would lead many to believe that after buying a PS3 you can only afford one game and not another one for awhile.
ANd still price is a huge hindering. There have been many consoles and handhelds before PS3 that had very high prices that sold just as poorly if not more poor. And really they sold more poorly because most of them were new competitors to the market such as the 3D0. The comparisons between it and the PS3 are mindbogglingly similar. I think if 3D0 had the same brandname and show in the market as PS3 did sales would be very similar up to this point.
And it still isn’t saling worth a flip in Japan. Possibly a sign that maybe even a pricedrop can’t save it. At least in Japan for which I’ve explained the brandname is with Nintendo there not playstation anymore.
Nintendo has been slowly taking over in Japan since the Wii’s launch, a bad launch for the PS3 killed it there. It still has a chance in North America if they get that price drop to us too.

Motorstorm was never big in Japan. A game like MSG (despite it’s sucky status), on the other hand, was. Games that WILL be big in Japan are games such as FFXIII and Pain.

PS3 isn’t selling because it’s a tad pooish.
atm, that’s very true, as the current game library is craptacular, with the exceptions of Resistance, Motorstorm, F1 and Virtua Fighter. However, with games like Lair, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Heavenly Sword all coming out this year, the tide looks about to change.
Weird Guy, dont be a fool, the main factor is the price. And yes, it does matter to most people, not everyone has 600 bucks to let loose on a gaming console... Oh wait, its NOT gaming console...
