HELP NEEDED FOR BURNING DVD's

hello everyone! first off i just wanna say that i am COMPLETELY new to burning dvd’s. i just bought and installed my dvd burner today. ok first of all i need to know how to burn DVD’s. specifically, how to use Nero. when ever i try to burn my videos onto the dvd, it says soimething like file is not compatable. what kind of formats do i need to have to burn a dvd? and also does it matter what kind of DVD’s i get? all my dvd players are panasonic, so is there like a specific type of disk that panasonic players read? and one last thing. does anybody have a serial number for cheetah dvd burner 2.07 or 2.08?

once again i am totaly new to this so any help is greatly appreciated
