will not play on standalone dvd

Maybe someone can help here....I’ve burned several dvd’s using several different burners (nero, winavi, etc..) They all play on powerdvd on my computer, even on the dvd preview in ifoedit. But, it WON’T play on my sony dvd player which, according to some posts I’ve seen, is a dvd player that will play just about anything. Won’t play in PS2 either. I am using NEC 2500a burner with sony dvd+r discs. Why will is play on powerdvd on the pc but not on a standalone? What am I doing wrong?

Check the specs of your dvd player. Can it play dvd+r? (they’re different from dvd-r)
Also which model dvd player are you using?

I use the exact same dvd burner as you, the problem you are experiencing is with your DVD player it wont play DVD+R/WR try burning DVD-R you can check your burner specs here http://www.nec.co.uk/DVDRW_ND2500.aspx

my player plays all media...funny thing is i burned a dvd movie (disc to disc) and it worked perfectly in the player but when i burn from a downloaded movie off the pc, it doesn’t work. I think it might be a file thing. I noticed that the dvd i burned from had a video-ts.VOB file but my downloaded movies have a video-ts. BUP and .IFO files, no .VOB. But they play on powerdvd on the pc....hopefully i’ll figure this out before dvd’s are as obselete as the 8-track.
