The wmv files will actually play as whole files in wmp.
However in other players they wont play, and I desparetly need to edit some wmv files in movie maker, but movie makers preview window wont recoginisethem either
the audio plays fine but the video is a scrambled green screen.
read in details what i have tried
ok so here is the problem
all worked fine with my old pc.
i had some avi issues with my old pc but i fixed them with
* 'avi codec pack plus 21'
* 'avi codec 1.2.b110
and divx bundle
however when i got my new pc i was back to square 1 having to fix my avi codec problem.
and i did.
however when i fixed the avi problem i created a new problem that did not happen last time
the new problem is WMV files
they will still play in 'windows media player' but i cant preview them in any video editing programs, and i cant play them in other players!
This problem clealry could be fixed by a codec
however i have tried
nimo codec pack
djbcp codec pack
both stopped the avis working and did not fix the wmv vfiles
matrosak codec pack and 'combined community codec download' did not help either. a friend reccomended htese packs
i have tried 'codec 8.1' and 'baofang' codecs also
a program called SHERLOCK' advises what codecs in the registry are broken. it said 'divx is broken'
GSPOT which runs an analysis over a file and tells you if the codec is supported says of all my wmv files 'codec = wmv3
(vc-1 simple/main1) codec status = undetermined'
and i also tried
'wm9 codecs
wmv9vcmsetup which did not help
and mplayer which is supposed to play everything, and acedivx player also will not play any wmv files
i tried reinstalling w.m.maker and that did nothelp either
