OK here’s what i do, I have chosen these programs out of the dozens available on the net and I’ve chosen these programs because of there simplicity of use and general results.

Burning/Ripping DVD video disks

Decrypt - http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

It’s dead easy to use and takes about 30 Min’s to rip a DVD. And when I mean dead easy to use I mean it smiley

The I convert the .vob files to .avi

I use Auto GK - http://len0x.btothec.com/web3/

This takes a long time about 4 hours per disk (depending on what quality you want to convert the files at) but I feel that this is a small price to pay because the quality is so good and the program is so easy to use.

Then I convert the .avi file I created with Auto GK to a .vob file this is quick about 50 Min’s for a 1.5gig .avi file.

I choose to convert the .avi film to .vob simply because it takes an age to burn .avi files to DVD if you do this it takes about 50 minuets as apose to 2 or 3 hours.

Burning the DVD, I use Nero vision express no other reason really other than I use Nero for pretty much every thing else so it seemed logical, to me anyway but if anybody has any suggestions on a better DVD burner I’d be happy to take suggestions smiley

I know that some of you will be thinking that he’s talking shite and “I know a better way of doing things”, please try to bare in mind I have written this post for beginners that are new to burning DVDs, like myself and out of all the programs I have used these are the best to if you cant be arsed to read the help and read me files.

Ok i’ve finally figured out two ways to do this...

The first way and what i figure you’re doin is is tryin to open the .avi file with nero and do it from there....if this is the case you need to update your nero to at least I’d say prolly 6.0.0.0. http://www.nero.com/ That way you can use nero recode that will convert files and then burn to DVD... Otherwise Roxio Easy CD Creator http://www.roxio.com and Sony’s DVD Architect will do the same thing http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/products/showproduct.asp?PID=91 ......for the whoppering $799.96 pricetag!!!!

The second way and prolly just a whole lot easier is WinAVI Video Converter.

http://www.winavi.com/
http://www.winavi.com/WinAVI_Video_Converter.exe

First its gonna tell you whether or not you have the correct codecs installed...you can find a few good codec packs on your favorite search engine.

Next, you click the DVD button. You are prompted to open any file type. Since you are using an .avi, open it up.

Click browse to save it where you want it.

Click Advanced.
Click the source frame rate on 29.97 for NTSC and 23.976 for PAL. (If you live in north america put it on NTSC....if you live in the rest of the world, put it on PAL)
Click the TARGET FORMAT and put it on the respective format.
Click the Target scale to make it wide screen or full screen...16x9 for widescreen and 4:3 for full (normally you can leave this one on auto but sometimes this one allow you to condense the picture to give you a black bar on all four sides turnin a full screen into a wide screen type a deal....kinda nifty for those 256x184 resolution things you download off the net....)
Hit OK

That’s how you convert it. It’ll take about 25 mins per 700 meg .avi file.

I have also noticed too that when you go to burn the .vob files off in nero you get a get an error saying

DVD-Video files reallocation failed. The resulting DVD-Video might be unplayable. Do you wish to continue?

Go ahead and hit ok and hit yes on the next one....it will burn off....not every single time....but prolly 24 out of 25 will work pretty damn good.

The other thing that still boggles me to this day though....

Certain DVD players may not play the movie correctly. Usually the rule of thumb on that....The cheapest is best....Hell the $39 dollar one at Wal-Mart does it all anyway....
But certain ones (we have a first generation old skool sony in the living room) some of the movies will jump the audio with the video....in other words the people will talk and their lips will be like 4 or 5 seconds off with the words.

Well I have it isolated it down to two different things....

A. the ghetto fix-hit the title button on your dvd player remote...since no title has been recorded it jumps back to the scene where it tried to leave and corrects the audio for a short time

B. Which is really what i think it is...you cant have anything else goin on your computer when you run winavi...

Anyways hope that helped ya dude
