Hi,

I’m using WinAvi and DVD Shrink (w/ Nero) to burn Avi files to dvd.

I have a few questions and I’d appreciate your suggestions.

1- Is there any way I can get the output to be in DVD format as opposed to Dvix?

2- I’m using DVD Shrink to burn after converting with WinAvi because I’ve read that many people have had problems using Nero directly. I’ve been able to burn directly with Nero with no problem. Is there any advantage to using DVD shrink?

3- I have a movie that is split into two avi files. Is there any way to combine the files to get a continuous dvd output?

4- I’m going to convert a movie that’s in avi format with an srt (subtitles) file. What’s the best way for me to to do this?

5- Also, what’s audio bitrate?

Thanks a lot

1. With Winavi, the output is DVD format (.VOcool if you convert AVI to DVD, just click “DVD” then load the AVI

2. DVD Shrink is so you can shrink a movie to fit onto a blank dvd. Store bought dvds are bigger than blank dvd-5 ones you buy in stores, so if you were to backup a dvd you need to shrink it. Winavi will automatically set up the AVI to DVD so it can fit on your dvd, just make sure the settings are for 4300MB. So you don’t need to use dvdshrink when your doing AVI to DVD with winavi. Just burn the output .VOB files with nero burning rom.

3. Nero Vision can do that, the second one will automatically load at the end of the first when viewing the dvd. Just add both video files and convert, make sure size is set at “DVD”

4.Convertxtodvd is like winavi in that it can convert your avi to dvd, but it will support subs, just make sure the movie and subs have the same name(movie.avi — -movie.srt)and are in the same directory and it will detect subs automatically. Its a better program than winavi for converting to dvd anyways. Download at Torrentspy

5. When using winavi, just stick with the default bitrate. Here’s a guide

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your help.
I converted and burned a movie with its corresponding subtitle srt file using convertxtodvd. It worked perfectly with one exception: all the “L"s in the subtitles came out as “I"s. What could the problem be?

That would be a problem with the actual srt/sub file. I don’t know of anyway a srt file could become corrupted in the conversion process to produce such a error. I believe that who ever made the srt file has made the L’s into I’s.

Perhaps try and download another srt file from the net and use that instead of the current srt file.

To confirm that the srt file is corrupted, download BS player or if it is a divx/xvid format originally, the divx/xvid played that comes with the codec and see if the problem still exists in its non converted state. I think you will find that it will be just a corrupted/badly made srt file.
