I am trying to work out the best way of putting some of my dvds onto my 30gig ipod video. I want to rip a dvd, compress the files and convert to ipod format. I’m new to this type of stuff but hopefully i’ll get my head round it soon. I’ve used dvd decrypter to rip the files onto my hard drive. I no the vob files contain the movie and audio for a film etc. I’ve heard of xvid and divx compression also. Is it possible to compress these vob files with divx or xvid and then convert them to the ipod video format. I’d appreciate any advice and any recomended software. Thanks. Johnny D

I also want to keep the files as back up on my pc hard drive (40g) so compression is key. Am I correct in thinking that Mpeg4 is a compressed format using xvid or divx codec? It’s very confusing this video compressing stuff!
