I am unable to play any files - audio or video - in Windows Media Player. I reinstalled WMP, reinstalled all of my codecs, and updated everything to current versions in an attempt to resolve the problem. But, I still cannot play any files. I am getting “Class Not Registered” error messages whenever I attempt to play a file. I am also receiving random messages (when I attempt to open any other program involving codecs) stating that the quartz.dll file is missing. I need help!!! Can I extract that file from my Windows 98SE Installation disk, and if so, how, and where do I place the extracted file? Please let me know how to resolve this problem??? I appreciate your help. huh

I dunno why the quartz.dll file has disappeared, but here’s the dll:

You could probably get the dll file from you Windows 98SE CD though.

You might be able to find quartz.dll in one of your .cab files in the windows 98 installation cd, or off the web, but chances are you won’t be able to register it properly. When you install a file in windows you have to put the proper info into the registry to make use of it. You’re probably better off installing quartz.dll from alternate sources (they’ll register it automatically). The two that come to mind are installing windows media player (6.4, or 7 - NOT 9 - 9 doesn’t have quartz.dll) or installing directx.
For class not registered you’re better off using one of the three diagnostic tools on this page

I prefer gspot out of the bunch. Class not registered can stem from many different kinds of problems, from missing codec to incorrect avi file size.
