wolfen Guest | I joined a certain website and I’m trying to play the videos via Windows Media Player, both the stream & download options. Each time I verify my username & password & try to play a video, a message pops up that a WMV3 codec is required to view the video, and that mine id missing (?). Can I download or buy this codec at this website - I don’t know a lot about computers, and any help would be MUCH appreciated - thanx in advance...Wolfen

And welcome to MovieCodec.com
You are using Windows 9 Media Player? If not be sure to have it updated from microsoft.com.
It seems that website that offers this streaming video service, requires a codec (compatible with windows media player 9). This could be any of many different codecs that exist.
My tip is, provided that you have an updated version of Windows Media Player 9, to ask the website you joined. Since you are member of the website(perhaps even paying I dunno) they really should inform what exact codec you need.

machf Guest | This may seem weird, but you should go here
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx
and download the last set of codecs, the one called “Codecs Installation Package for Windows Media Video 9 VCM”. Even though it’s supposed to be for WMP 6.4, it’s the one you require to view WMV3 videos... believe me, I had to install it on a Windows XP system to get it to work (and yes, it works fine with WMP 6.4 too).

urmele Guest | the codec-package from mircrosoft mentioned below will work without win xp; even without media player!
Extract the file just as a normal archive (winrar worked fine), run “setup_wm.exe”. A WMV3-Video should now run on every good player...nice, huh?

Ned Guest | Awesome fix! I had the most current WMP9 but the WMV3 codec wasn’t working. I downloaded the 6.4 codec package as suggested and told it to update anything that needed it and it fixed my issues!
Thanks!
