TCR files? Fake or not?

Are movie files with TCR in the name fake or real? Since I have seen many questions about how to play files with tcr in the name, I wonder what is the truth now.

Files look like this: ***tcr***.avi
If I use GSpot I get for example: 2 compatible codes installed, comments: code JUNK, No Audio channels, rendering successful.
