problems burning avi files to cd

I have small AVI files from my camera. they transfered well from the camera card to the hard drive on my pc. But when I burned them to cd. The sound is distorted and breaking up.
I have two pcs and a lap top all with windows XP. I use windows software to burn the cds. All three have the same problem. I want to keep the same format if possible. The sound is ok if I change them to mpeg.
I’m not very knowledgeable on codecs and things.
Can anyone help.

Do they play off your hard drive with good sound? Because burning it as data to a cd shouldn’t change anything. Try downloading VLC player, google it, its free, and open the cd with vlc player and see if the sound is still messed up.
