Your best bet would be quicktime pro. It’s pay though (30 US dollars).
If your avi uses a cross-platform codec like cinepak or indeo (3,4, or 5) you can use the smartvid utility from intel.
There are third-party video editing programs that will allow for the production of quicktime movies. One that comes to mind is the Camtasia Producer found in Camtasia Studio. It has a 30-day free trial. It requires you to check all authoring options when you install the quicktime player though. Camtasia is by no means the only program that will do it though. Keep researching some and you might find more.
