I’ve downloaded an avi video via bittorrent. Even though I have played various other avi files on my system this one seems to be an exception to all of my media players. It plays the sound and not the video. There is ONE thing that will play it and oddly enough that is an image viewer entitled Infranview. Since it plays in that I would guess the file isn’t corrupt. The problem with Infranview is that it plays video at really odd speeds so a 20 minute video will become a 2 minute video. I have looked for settings on how to change this but it seems there are none. Any idea what I could do?

Can you give me the name of the exact file you downloaded and I can find out what codec you might be missing.

The thing with AVI files is, they are just containers and the actual video can be encoded into many different formats. It could just be that you have finally come across a file format that you don’t have the right codec for, hence the picture is not getting decoded.

try Movie Codec’s diagnostic tool to discover whatcodecs you may need. just click on this link to go to the download and info page to find out more and download the toolsmiley
