Hello I updated to windows vista, but now i’m not getting any video playback. I hear sound but no video. I used vlc (tried everything i read on this site) I changed my settings on my ati 9600 from custom to home as directed by members users still not working. My pc specs are:

OS: Vista 32bit
Graphic: Ati Radeon 9600 series
Sound: Sound Blaster (latest card)
Processor: P4 3.0
Ram:1022mb

I have no problem viewing streaming video (youtube/or anyother website).

Here is the driver for your card 9600 for Vista 32 bit. http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/common-vista32.html I have some compatibility problems too, first was the antivirus and until now only PC-Cillin and Kaspersky work also some spyware removers. Have you try to play the video with the media centre? Anyway try the driver won’t hurt.

There is no playback at all on my computer. Just a black screen. Files that I was able to play before cannot be played now. I haven’t downloaded anything new lately.

Can someone tell me why?

Found the solution, yeyyyyyyyy...

1. Open VLC media player.
2. Click on Settings and select Preferences… .
3. Expand Video and click on Output modules.
4. Check Advanced options in the lower right corner.
5. Set Video output module to either “DirectX“, “OpenGL” or “Windows GDI“

Since the first post on feb 20 and 21 Ati 7.2 and nVidia 100.65 drivers came out. Also check the new Vista Codecs 4.29 and is good to have Vista Manager install. A new DivX 6.51 came out so start downloading. VLC did not make a new one so try Media Classic or the new BSplayer. Also is a good idea to try the Media Center included in Vista.www.codecs.com or Google all from above.Vista Manager is a shareware.

To fix the problem on black screen withvista, just install Divx Program or the Divx Code and you can play any divx files

Thanks Andrzej! Had some trouble with my Geforce FX 5900 Ultra and vlc-playback in Vista32. The sound worked fine, but the display went flashing in different colors on video playback. Changed the settings from “standard” to “Windows GDI” and it worked like a charm. Now i’ll just have to deal with all the other issues this crappy 96.85-driver brought on...

Andrzej’s fix worked for me with VLC, but WMP still does this crazy play back thing. It only plays video when my mouse is moveing. Anyone everheard of this. I’ve talked to a bunch of friends and noone has a clue why it’s doing it. It’s fine cause I can watch all my video with VLC, but when sites like streetfire use WMP it does the same thing.
