What's wrong with burning Vcd files ?

I’ve been downloading VCD Or KVCD files ...(I’m fairly new). and i find that they come with a tutorial that exlplains what to do with nero. Then all you have to do is burn directly to a CD-R from the CUE file you downloaded and it works great everytime, and you don’t have to wait to convert the files. It’s just that it seems so much easier and cheaper that using DVD’s and a converter that there must be some drawback. Can someone fill me in as to the major differences.?
