Dvd playing problems

I’ve got a problem and would be glad of any help.
I’m new to all this so please bear with me.

I’ve downloaded an .avi file and want to play it on my DVD player.

I extraced the sound to a .wav file using virtualdub. I then used this and the original file encode an .mpg file using TMPGenc. Using this file I authoured a DVD, again using TMPGEnc,and burnt it to disc.

When I try to play this disc on my computer it works fine but when I try it on my stand alone player, cyberhome CH-DVD 302, it starts ok but after a few minutes it freezes. The only way to continue is to power down the player and start again, fast forward to the freeze point and play from there, with it freezing again another few minutes down the line.

Can anyone tell me why this happens and how I can stop it.

Thanks for your time.

Cheers

Martin Rigby
