I need help with the application VirtualDubMod

Im trying to add a sound-file
(a Mono mp3 74 Mb)
that carries the complete sound for an avi-movie i have
(the problem whas thath the sound in thath movie whas laying in the left channel almost only, so im gonna try replace thath with a 50%50 both channel soundfile)
and the advice i was given is to use this program virtualdubmode, im not good at this with codecs and need alot of help with everything basicly, but this is whath im supposed to do apprearentley

“Use virtualdubmod to add the new audio to the avi file under streams->streams list.
Select Video->Direct Stream Copy.
Last File->Save as a new avi."

the problem is when i start by adding the accual movie i get an error message inside Virtualdubmod

- Error Decompressing video frame 0: An Unknown Error Occured /maybe corrupt data.(error code -100)

well i dont even know if shall start to load the avi like thisgrin but i then won’t be able to reach stream list without it, and all other movies load correct so!
what is the next step for me?

perhaps there are other program like virtualdubmode? that can be able to load the affected file?
