the simple system of dvd santa www.dvdsanta.com is realy simple and streamlined and it can also do home movies and photos and stuff like that too.
I have both and use both of them quite often. they would be my top picks for good avi to dvd software that does a good job and has the versatility to save you money on buying other programs down the track. ---

Maybe you can try trial version first to see if it can really help you too.
