Plextor Convertx PX-M402U and WinDVD Creator Crashing problem

I have just bought a Mesh Computer with an Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard and Nvidia Geforce 7300GS. I have tried using this with a Plextor Convertx PX-M402U Digital Video converter and Intervideo WinDVD Creator 2 to convert VHS videos to MPeg-2 files. I have encountered numerous problems with software crashing and the resulting files causing explorer to crash.
I have also tried using Intervideo DVD Creator 3 (which requires overlay support) but this does not capture at all.
Anyone tried video capture using the combination of the Plextor and the 7300GS? I’m trying to narrow down the problem.
Also does the 7300GS have overlay support?
