DAVHIX Guest | I’m trying to play a file named Bones.S02E07.HDTV.XVID-XOR, but it wont work, i’ve tryed powerdvd, quicktime and WMP, the video works fine but there is no sound. In windows media player it says errror, “Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the MP3 - MPEG Layer III (55) codec is not installed on your computer." I’ve tried what people have posted on this page, my l3codec is correct and not pirated or anything but I still cant get audio? I’ve redownloaded WMP and upgraded to most resent version.
SO CONFUSED! PLZ Help!

DAVHIX Guest | I have found a SOLUTION! My l3codec was o.k. I installed a divx decoder and everything was great! Here’s the link:

use WinRAR or something similar to unzip then install the one with the computer icon. You’re good to go!

ldylck24t Guest | i see many of u went thru this problem with the mp3 codec 55. I can play the video in windows now. It was an rm file, that i turned into an avi. Now it has no sound. I dont know what to do.

I’m trying to play a .avi movie file using WMP. I was using WMP 9, then upgraded to 10, and then to 11. I’ve tried download the codec 55 from multiple sites, and nothing has worked.
The Microsoft website tells me this:
“Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the MP3 - MPEG Layer III (55) codec is not installed on your computer."
I’ll try just about anything at this point. Thanks in advance.

LayDeeHawk Guest | I found the following site, and the software works! I had the error message about the codec 55 when I tried to play some mp3’s, and I installed the software, and now I can play them. Hope this works for you!

I also have the same problem “Missing MP3 - MPEG Layer III (55) codec”. Found this solution from another site, try install this (http://www.neda.net.ir/downloads/files/windowsmedia/wmtools.exe). I tried and it works for me. Hope it works for you too.

I couldn’t understant why it stops to work, because last month I didn’t have a problem with a video with the same codec. Now, after downloaded another video I saw it. I cleared my computer, reintal all codecs but some of them don’t work. I’m crazy...
How some of tool work on with some guy and others not?
