I was having the same problem that a few others were having. first, movies played without sound. Then i installed the AC3 codec that has been mentioned here most often (from Divx). After that, every player crashed upon start-up.

Then i tried a different AC3 codec - thanks very much to whoever suggested it (forgot your name). This worked perfectly, plus it has a lot of features (like EQ). For those who wanted to know how to configure AC3, use this one - it will install automatically into start menu > all programs.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ac3filter/

My 6+ gig download is saved!

i have done all of the follow things but my sound only comes out of my right (of 2) speaker. plus it is really quiet. I downloaded the codec that makes and error on my wmp then i downloaded the filter. i get great picture but sound is screwy. ive gone in the mixer and set it to stereo 2/0. ive turned up the gain but i really want the sound to come out both speakers again.

I had the same problem (very low volume when playing movies). Fixed it by going into the AC3 Filter config (you can get to it from control panel) and changing the preset to 'loud'. This increases the gain to maximum and the volume is now ok.

I downloaded a large file, and finally play, but no sound. I downloaded http://sourceforge.net/projects/ac3filter/, but still no sound. All I get when I use window media player is “error downloading codec." Can anyone help me out, please?

Pulled my hair out trying to find a codec to resolve the 8192 issue. Not only did AC3 resolve the error, it allowed me to enhance the volume tremendously! Now while flying I can watch my AVI movies via my laptop without pushing my headphones against my ears. AC3 works great! Visit their site for instructions on increasing volume.

That is not a video codec and has nothing to do with DivX. However a answer could have been found if you had used the “FIND” command in this forum (or searched manually). In fact you could have put “Audio tag 8192 " in a search engine (like google) and found out about it.

That audio codec is AC3. Different AC3 codecs can be found on the web. Try the AC3filter at www.sourceforge.net.

This Worked for ME
