How to watch HD videos from Video iPod on TV?

Enjoy Your favorite movies on TV from iPod

The new Video iPod (80GB/30Gcool has been launched for two months. We bought a new Video iPod 30GB. It is perfect when I watch videos or listen to the music with it on my way to work, at lunch break time, and at a plane trip. Moreover, I found one of its overlooked features, displaying videos on a television set with an Apple iPod AV Cable. So, I bought the Apple iPod AV Cable on the Apple¡¯s website. After it arrived, I begin to give it a whirl and got success in watching Video on my TV with my new Video iPod 30GB. I would like to share the success with you, and introduce the way how to watch your videos on TV with new Video iPod.
What you will need:
You should prepare the following items:
• An Apple iPod AV Cable.
• Some kind of conversion tools for iPod, such as Video to iPod Converter or DVD to iPod Converter software. They can convert your Video/DVD to iPod-compatible video.
• A new Video iPod. It may be new Video iPod 30GB or 80GB.
How to:
Firstly, connect your new Video iPod to TV. The Apple iPod AV Cable (as Figure 1.) has a three-plug RCA connecting at one end and a three-branded 1/8¡± plug at the other. You could insert the cable into the microphone jack (as Figure 2.)

Secondly, prepare your iPod supported videos and transfer them to your Video iPod. If you don¡¯t have iPod supported videos, you could use some conversion software convert your DVD, or any other video formats to iPod supported MP4 video. For example, you could rip your favorite DVD to iPod with Xilisoft DVD to iPod Converter (as Figure 4.), or convert other video formats such as AVI, MPEG, AMV, MP4, 3GP, DivX etc to iPod-compatible video MP4 format with Xilisoft iPod Video Converter (as Figure 3.). You could download the conversion software from: www.xilisoft.com and find the guides on: http://www.xilisoft.com/support.html

Tip 1: The price of video quality
The new Video iPod supports MPEG-4 video encoding format which is limited by video resolution and video bitrate. According to Apple¡¯s official specs, the MPEG-4 encoded video can have a resolution of up to 640 by 480 pixels and a maximum bitrate of up to 2.5 Mbps.
The higher the resolution and video bitrate, the better the image quality generally will be, however this also increases file size. According to my test, in the conversion of 1200 video bitrate and 320 by 240 video resolutions, the original file is 2 hours, the output file will be lager than 700MB; But, in another conversion of 768 video bitrate and 320 by 240 video resolution, the original file is the same one, the output file will be about 300MB. If you want to get high video quality on TV with Video iPod, you could rip your DVD to a MPEG-4 Video file with 640 by 480 video resolution and 2500 Kbps video bitrate, this file will consumes about 1.5GB of disk space, and its video quality on TV is better than VCD-Video quality.
Tip 2: Apple¡¯s official Video Specs of new Video iPod
Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Thirdly, set up your new video iPod options.
In order to control how you export video, you could set up your Video iPod options. The iPod Video Options screen selects how your iPod handles video file playback.
There are three settings (as Figure 5.): TV Out, TV Signal and Widescreen. You could adjust to produce the video playback style you need.

Figure 5. Choose Videos->Video Settings to open the iPod setting menu.
Tip 3: TV Out Setting
The option controls Video iPod either play video on the built-in screen or transmit a video signal out of the microphone jack¡£ They don¡¯t do both.
• No. Playback remains on the Video iPod itself
• Yes. A TV signal is produced
• Ask. The iPod prompts you whenever you play a video file
You could use Ask option, it will give you the flexibility to choose playback behavior on a case-by-case basis.
Tip 4: TV Signal
European and Australian television sets use a different signal standard than use used in America and Japan. In U.S or Japan, TV works with the NTSC standard. PAL is used in European countries. You should select the correct signal for your country.
Tip 5: Widescreen
If the ratio of your video is 16:9, you can choose ¡°Yes¡± to produce a widescreen signal. If the ratio of your video is 4:3, you could choose ¡°No¡± to export the traditional TV output.
Finally, watch your videos on your TV with the new Video iPod.
My iPod-compatible Video is ripped form DVD by Xilisoft DVD to iPod Converter. I set the output file parameters as: Video Resolution: = 640*480, Video Bit rate = 2500kbps. The video quality is very perfect.
