To uninstall Realplayer (more like Real Pain in the...), start with Judge’s method:

1. “C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\Setup\ and click on the file: r1pclean.exe” to uninstall the program. It will prompt that you cannot uninstall it. Just ignore the message and it will install anyways.

2. In order to remove Realplayer from Windows Add/Remove Program list, you must remove its registry part. At this time, you will encounter “Missing Component” error. I used CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) to remove it from the list. Nifty little utility to clean out your cache, history, and get rid of obsolete registry list (check under the tool > delete entry).

3. Once Realplayer is gone from the Add/Remove Program list, delete folders that handles Real. X:/Program Files/Real, and X:/Program Files/Common Files/Real. Those two must be deleted before you can fresh install Real Player.

4. Search for Real Player plug-in for MPC. Real is one crummy program that does nothing but fouls up your pc. Kinda like AOL. Avoid it unless there is no way around it. I had to use it in order to transfer songs from my PC to Palm Tungsten E2... and this is how I ended up, writing a post about how to remove this nightmare.

Hope this helps fellow sufferers.

Sorry about some typo...

1. “Just ignore the message and it will uninstall anyways."

Thanks Judge! I’ve tried your method and it worked although like some people, Real Player is still in my add/remove program. My problem is, I’m trying to play file with .rmvb extension. When I was trying to install Real alternative, it says that setup detected an installed Real Player and as usual, the uninstall component is missing. Anyways, I ignored this and went on installing Real Alternative as I want to use its Media Player Classic (MPC). I have also installed Vobsub audio since I’m watching file with subtitle but the MPC won’t play. it says the codec or filter needed to support some fins and graph of the file is not installed. I wonder what those are and what should I do.I’m not sure whether I should un-install Real Alternative and re-install Real Player again (coz it’s not in the program file anymore). Anyone who could help, I thank you in advance.

I’ve also tried almost all there is to get rid of realplayer. Not because, it’s not a good player but because when I updated my graphics driver something went wrong and I can’t use some of the realplayer features. Now all I want to do is to uninstall it and reinstall it. But, unfortunately I’m not being able to.

Anymore suggestions would be really great.
