for the xvid which is a new open source format for mp4 you would need to download
1. the xvid decoder/encoder which you can get
from
http://www.xvidmovies.com/

2.and also river past video cleaner
you can get it from this site
http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=River%20Past%20Video%20Cleaner&tag=srch

having installed both softwares
this article would help you to decode your xvid
movie
http://www.riverpast.com/en/support/tutorials/convert/xvid/avi.php

good luckwink

In response to anna’s question on her unfinished torrent, my advise would be to check the peer list for that particular download. you will proberly find that every1 has the same 99.9% completage, therefore the only thing to do would be to try another torrent or simply wait untill someone comes on with a full version. happened to me its very anoying.

just open up the first .r00 file using winrar and the full movie will be there, then just drag and drop the file anywhere. it’s easy!

Just downloaded a DVDRIP file and couldn’t play it even though my engraver wen’t through the whole process fine except reading it. I then went to move the file to another file and got the error that the file could not be moved (or deleted) because it was being used by another process. I realised then there must be a virus and, after a few hours of research (the system got extremely slow), I found it was a virus called “hijack this”. I had to delete the temp files, then the dvdrip file then I also immediately emptied the trash. I also deleted all references to hijack and jack in the register, except of course those I knew to be mine as my name is jackie.
This is done by entering “regedit” in the “execute” command from “start” menu. Then do a search.
I realise these are old messages but I found them while looking for help so I hope this helps someone else. Cheers!

But when I do extract one of those files, 2 files are extracted. One with .bin and the other .cue and still cannot play the movie..can you help me with this one please...Thankyou

I used winrar with just one file, the result was a “image” file of 4gb (the sice of the movie) I dropped into VLC media player, voila! Just like the original dvd.

Thanks DOPEKO .. you post helped!
dopeko wrote: just managed to open the downloaded file
those of you who get alliance XXXXXXX.xvid.001
and so on
just double click on the file and then choose program from program installed. then chose winRAR (you need to install this program first)
WinRAR will then open the file and you will see the movie you downloaded as AVI
smiley
extract it to a new folder and watch it like any AVI files

microcronz wrote: One thing that does happen very frequently with torrents is that people put large files into what are called .rar files. These are essentially archive files so that the single larger file is broken down into many smaller files. This helps prevent loss of large chunks of data if you get corruption which is sometimes inevitable. To use the files contained within these archives you need to download a copy of WinRar which is free from somewhere like here (http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar351.exe). When you download these multiple .rar files you will get a file called nameofmovie.rar and a bunch of files called nameofmovie.r00, nameofmovie.r01, nameofmovie.r02 etc. You need to extract the .rar file not any of the .r00, .r01, r02 etc files as they wont work. If there is no .rar file at all then open the first numbered .r00 instead and it should work

If you want to download a film or video clip them it can come in all sorts of different file types. Primarily you will end up with files with these sorts of extensions: AVI, WMV, MPEG, RM, RMVB. These are media files will all happily play straight away using windows media player if you have to correct codecs, .rm files need real media player. You should get both the Xvid (http://www.xvid.org/downloads.html) and DivX (http://www.divx.com/divx/play/download/) codecs by clicking the links provided. This will let you see far more types of films. If you have trouble viewing a particular file I advise that you get hold of the Video Lan media player from here (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/). This is an awesome bit of software that will play almost any type of media file you try with it (I have never had one it couldn’t handle) and its open source.

If you go to download a movie and you find that you have downloaded a .bin and a .cue file, a .mdf and a .mds or an .iso file then what you have got is a copy of the data off the CD/DVD. These are known as image files and can be viewed by mounting them in a program such as alchol120% or daemon tools or they can be burned to a disk using a program like Nero. These types of files are designed to be burnt to disk and then played back using a DVD player hooked up to a TV. If you downloaded an .iso it is probably a rip of the exact image of the retail DVD of the film you want. This is best for replacing a damaged DVD that you own. They normally are either 2.85 or 4.6gigabytes in size which is very large and can take some time to download. If you get 700megabyte files then they are either VCD or SVCD and will play in most resent DVD players. Most movies which come as .cue and .bin or as .mdf and .mds are either VCD or SVCD.

My question is, I know how to extract the files, but I need to know how to make all the individual rar files from a dvd rip, that extract into the one file.

I have move files in rar format, however they are broken into 2 CD’s. CD-1 and CD-2. They both have the same numbering of files i.e. .r00 to .r05. the only differnece is the they are preceeded with CD1 or CD2 respectivley. It appears that they are two CD’s with what appears to be one half of the film on each CD. My question is how do I get it to play as a whole film with out haveing to change the cd’s over
