Ok i’ve got 4 mpg files all around 500-600 MB which means they can fit on the discs perfectly.

I burnt them straight onto 4 discs but they wont play and my DVD player recongizes them as CD’s and not as VCD’s.

What have I done wrong?

Does your computer recognise them as media files prior to burning to cd. Have you just burnt the files as data and not chosen the vcd option on the burner which only a computer will be able to read.

Cubic, are these files mpeg1 vcd-compatible files?
Do they have the proper resolution? Bitrate? and Framerate for whatever region your in?

you need to author a vcd...basically just convert those (hopefully) mpeg1 vcd files to a properly structured VideoCD.

Nero can do it...newer versions, You may also want to try vcdeasy (www.vcdeasy.org)

High5 - Any good newer dvd player can play “raw” mpegs as long as they follow some sort of vcd/svcd/dvd spec.....some new players can even play divx..

Also FYI, you can fit 800mb on a 80minute cd in vcd/svcd format.
