Cant play .wmv files on my mac. VLC and Windows MP dont work!! PLZ HELP...

Im a mac newbie it has to be said and i cant play .wmv files on my Mac book Pro. I have the most up to date OS and iv tried VLC and Window MP for mac. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!
