Entree Rep: 0 Joined: 16 Nov 2006 Posts: 1 OFFLINE | I just purchased a Samsung SC-D363 miniDV camcorder. I shot some short video and was wanting to view it on my computer that is running Windows XP. I was trying to use the USB connection between camcorder and computer. I went to install the DV Media Pro ver 1.0 software that came with the camcorder. It installed the DV Driver and DirectX 9.0 just fine. However when I tried to install the “video codec”, it gave me a warning message saying the software for Sounds, video and game controllers has not passwed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. It says if I continue installation, it might impair or destabilize the correct operation of my computer system. I looked on the CD and it only has the windows logo and not the “designed for Windows XP” wording underneath the logo. However next to that logo, it does have Windows 98SE, Windows ME, WIndows 2000 and Windows XP listed. So where can I find the correct software to get the video codecs needed to view the movies on my computer via USB connection? Or do I even need video codec if I use those red/whi/yellow cables instead of the USB? Thanks for any information you can provide. I just don’t know which video codec I am needing.

notabigdeal Guest | the windows logo testing is a bunch of crap. dont' really worry about it too much. if the manufacturer is reputable and says it’s ok, then it probably is.

Envy Guest | Okay, everytime I try to use the disk that came with the camera it works. But when I try to hit “Video Codec” to install the codec I need it says it hasn’t passed the windows logo test to verify it’s compatibility with my pc or something.
It’s making me mad

p_fifo_fast Guest | OK i found this page after experiencing the same problem, however i found a work around, i dont have a fire wire port so i was trying with the usb connector, it didnt work at all so i stuck a SD Card into the bottom of the camera. Then i was able to record movies to the SD card, the movies it recorded were nice quality and were encoded with the codec i downloaded from the samsung site which can be found here

as far as getting video off the tape i dont know, but recording to a SD Card works much better for me since i use Linux for video editing.

Ingenio78 Guest | Hey guys, if you read the users guide, you’ll find that for transferring video from the tape to a PC, you must have installed an IEEE1398 video card (external or internal), USB doesn’t work for this purpose, only if you have MPEG4 file format video into a memory card.
If you try with the IEEE iLink cable it will work even if you are using any other capture software such as muvee auto producer.

AkB2 Guest | I am having a similar problem. I have not needed to use the IEEE cable connection because the USB transfer worked fine on two different computers running XP. I was able to capture video on tape to the machines just fine. Then I went and upgraded the primary PC to do my video work - I put in a new motherboard and processor. I can capture video but the colors are all wrong. Adjustments did not correct the issue either. I tried installing the Klite codec pack with no success. Any suggestions? I thought of formating my hard drive and starting over, but would prefer avoiding the hassle if possible...

For anyone having issues with with the codec while using a Mac...go to http://perian.org/ - allows Quicktime to view the .avi files (still won’t work with Realplayer though)

click start
click run
type in regsvr32 softpub.dll
click ok
you will see a pop up that says it succeeded, just reboot pc and try to reinstall drivers see if that works

scubaguy Guest | I have the same issue using Windows-XP, and also Vista. The SCD363 manual has some info that contradicts info I find online and isn’t very clear on what the USB 2.0 provides. Neither is thier website. I call tech support recently and they put me right to their level 2 since I actually could install their S/W on an XP-PRO PC, but it had failed to install correctly on my XP-Home Ed. They said get the latest driver from their website, which of course I already had tried, then they gave me the run-around of how something must’ve happend to my PC, etc, but both PCs work fine and I’ve done this stuff for a living for 25yrs+ now. — So when you see that message indicating that S/W hasn’t been “APPROVED” to work with XP-any version, that’s just what it means (maybe it will work this time, and maybe it won’t on the next PC or next time you try it, and they really don’t even seem to support it, so they put it off as an XP issue on your PC)
After we talked more, the guy realized that I knew what I was doing and it probably wasn’t my PC after all, but didn’t say that. Instead, he said, well, I don’t know, sometimes you could install the Vista driver for it, and that might fix your issue. What B/S, must be an known issue as I suspected when I called! I installed the driver for Vista and it went in fine. No issues from that yet, but they told me that you CANNOT use USB to x-fer video from the CC-tape into a PC, and that you must use F/W. They said there is third party s/w you can try to make the USB work on XP, but not on Vista (from the tape anyway)
Anyhow, what I’ve found to date using USB/XP is that I can view the video on the PC from the CC, but not import it from tape, and if I do copy video from the CC memory card, video plays with sound but it has a blank screen. When I try to import from the memory card, it says it can’t b/c I don’t have the codec, but I still haven’t found one that works yet. I’m thinking of trying the Vista one on the Samsung website. Just FYI, I had a major issue sharing a printer from Vista to XP, 100,000+ posts on this topic, to resolve it, I needed to load the Vista printer driver on the XP-PC that was sharing the printer out.
Anyway, I’ve had no luck with XP or Vista on this and I think I need the MPEG4 file format video into a memory card as mentioned above to make it work with USB? If anyone has more information on this please post it- I mean can you add it to any memory card or? And where to download it?
