Mpeg2 crashes WMP9

All of a sudden - about 5 days ago - whenever I try to play an mpeg2 with WMP9, the program crashes and I get an error message.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I can play mpeg2s on other players, I have no problem with .avi on WMP 9. On my laptop, I can play mpeg2s fine on WMP9. What could be up?
