BlueLikeSean Guest | So, my torrented avi files, when opened with windows media player only play sound, no video, and when I try to play them with DivX, it says that they do not support this file type, which is ridiculous. Advice?

Death666 Guest | Try a codec pack for your problems as there seem to be a lot of them.
dadinho,
Your files need to be extracted with winrar. Either that or you could remove the .___ and place the . before the avi and play.
So try to extract the files with winrar.
Ravi1233,
You’re obviously missing the codec or codecs that are used for the .avi files.
For those having multiple problems go for the k-lite codec pack and select the codecs you require.

Death666 Guest | Try VLC Player.
Or use Gspot to check which codec(s) oyu require for the file(s) to play.

Death666 Guest | Did you try using G-Spot Codec Information Tool?
It should tell you if you have the proper codecs installed for both audio and video to work.

Fuckwhatyouheard Guest | Fucking G-Spot does fuck all. All I ever get is 'codec undetermined' from that shit sucker. Get VLC player or GOM player those should work. They have codecs with them.

madmike Guest | I recently came across a movie on limewire that i wanted to see, I downloaded it, and Media Player says its unsuported. I downloade GSPOT and it says it is not a valid avi file. Ive tried every media player out there, winamp, medai player classic with ffdshow, vlc, adobe premiere, real player, divx, xvid. Ive tried changing the file extensions to that of other movie formats, ive tried to use the smartsoft converter, it doesnt recognise it. Anybody have any ideas of something that might work. Any help would be appreciated. If you want email me directly at sgt_hobo0051@yahoo.com Just put moviecodec in the subject bar and send me a link if you find something that works

zachdms Guest | CodecAllIn1 includes bad components (MMSwitch) that will cause your system to crash. You should avoid that nasty package at all costs.
(I was referred to this old thread by a new link.)
Speaking for myself only, as always.
