cncreal Guest | I spent $1500.00 for a new comp that I’ve tried everything on and still I cant play avi files and NOTHING works its gotta be something simple that Im missing! PLEASE HELP! Ive tried codecs and different players only able to play mpg. I THANK ANYONE FOR ADVISE

What programs/codecs have you tried installing and what type of files are you trying to play?
I would think that uninstalling all the filters or codecs that you’ve installed, then installing FFDShow and the AC3Filter would go a long way to playing most AVI/video files:

cncreal Guest | Thank you so much for your response I will try your suggestion and let you know. I havr an HP running windows xp/amd athlon xp 3200+
I started with windows media player then to avi player, realplayer,quicktime,divx and xvid still cant play avi files! I will try to take out what I have and install FFDShow. Do I need to remove all player,filters,codec for it to work?

Regular Rep: 0Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 615 OFFLINE | Nah, just remove the ones you’ve manually downloaded/installed. These would include DivX, XviD. Also AVI Player, RealPlayer and Quicktime don’t really need to be installed. You can keep them if you want, but Media Player Classic can play Real Media and Quicktime stuff and that’s pretty much all that RealPlayer and Quicktime are needed for.
FFDShow can be installed right away, and on setup it’ll ask what you want it to playback. Choose DivX and XviD stuff, etc (these can be changed later).
I would recommend that you uninstall the codecs or codec packs that you manually installed, and start afresh, so you know where everything’s at.

cncreal Guest | Hate to bother you again...but no change. I downloaded FFDShow and AC3Filter. They show on my files now what? I still get black screen and no audio! I tried to play on both my windows media 9 and on my Divx player. Do not get error, it shows timer advancing but no audio or visable showing. See, Ive tried anything I can think of! My old computer played everything just finew(being the reason I mentioned price earlier) However I was rununing a different windows program. Still this should work fine......BUT I NEED HELP STILL PLEASE! ANY OTHER IDEAS? I APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!
