Abnormal Playback Speed Problem (Need Help)

Having reinstalled my OS (Windows 98 SE), I now encounter abnormal playback speeds whenever I attempt to play any files.

Hence, I am unable to view any video files using windows media player (series 9) or the divx player.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any theories on how to solve the problem? They would be greatly appreciated.
