the strangest thing happened. an avi movie is saved on my computer and it works just fine when i watch it. but then when i burned it on a cd-r blank cd and i try to watch it from the cd it won’t play. what’s the reason for that?
although i had burned many movies before and they all worked fine from the cd. but this new batch of movies that i burned don’t work when i try to watch them from the burned cd but the exact same movies work when i try and watch them from the files saved on my computer

anonymous Guest | That’s pretty difficult to diagnose. But here’s things to look at:
1. Can you copy the file back from the cd back to the hard disk? (don’t worry about playing it, just copy it). If the copied file is playable you could suspect a slow cd drive. Usually if video files have very high bitrates and the cd-rom can’t keep up, it may appear as though it stalls.
2. if you can’t read the file at all when copying it from the disc it could indicate drive/disc incompatibility. you could try another brand of cd-r.
3. do you get specific error messages? like crc errors? do error messages appear in the event log? (they’ll appear under atapi or cd-rom messages) this could indicate a dirty lens, a scratched disc, or other physical malfunctions.
4. can the disc play in other people’s computers? then the drive is at fault again.
