problem with playing files from fresh download

i know that this may not be the best place to post this but i dont know where else to get help. i dont know what the problem is but i cant play files that arent fully downloaded. i have some files that i cant complete downloading due to the fact that they are no longer on the server. i would like to watch what i have downloaded but my computer wont play the files.

Try playing the file(s) in VLC (www.videolan.org).
