Missing audio after DVD to AVI

I’ve copied an old VHS tape that was recorded from TV to DVD via a PVR and it plays correctly and has audio. Since I want to remove advertisements and edit to create menus, I have created an AVI file using WinAVI Video Converter. The resultant AVI file has no audio. Any ideas why?

When convert to AVI,have you select the “DirectAC3” option in advanced page?
