Recovered .avis wont play

Hopefully someone can help me.

I had some ploblems with my digicam and lots got deleted. I used MediaRescue to recover the files with some success. The .jpegs are good on the whole, but the .avis just refuse to play with anything I’ve tried.

All the players say they need a codec but can’t find one (or don’t try) and I have no idea what else to do.

Does anyone have a clue?
